IandR Services Announces Launch of Revamped Oil Clean Product Range

Posted on 8th July, 2013

Northern Ireland based Investigation and Remediation Services are today announcing the official launch of their revamped range of oil degrading surfactants Oil Clean and Oil Clean Bioactive.  As a specialist in oil spill clean-up, which can range from spills of domestic home heating oil to heavier industrial oils, IandR have always had a need for an efficient and effective surfactant for removing oil staining from hard surfaces and, where required, a lighter formulation for soil flushing activities.  The company wasn’t happy with off the shelf products so some years ago research into formulations was undertaken.  The result of this work was a suite of oil degrading formulations that the company has used in its remediation work ever since.  Blended in-house to IandR’s own requirements Oil Clean and the lighter Soil Clean can be used on their own or with a carefully selected blend of oil digesting bacteria giving impressive results on a wide range of fuel oil and lubricant spills.

As IandR are also a leading distributer of oil absorbents and spill kits, it naturally followed that when customers heard about Oil Clean they would ask to try it out.  Oil Clean has been used by many of IandR’s customers to safely remove and degrade oil staining and help reduce odours.  In even more challenging applications, it has even been used to clear a track oil spill during one of Northern Ireland’s leading motorcycle road racing events allowing competition to safely resume.

IandR’s Product Sales Manager David Cather had this to say, “Oil Clean is by no means a new product, it has been used in many challenging circumstances by both IandR and some of our main customers for many years, however, when I started with IandR it was clear to me that it was a product which was crying out for proper promotion alongside our market leading absorbents and spill kits.  In today’s launch we are promoting the capabilities of this surfactant to all our customer base and beyond to anyone working with home heating oils, fuel oils or lubricants.  I have personally seen how, used in time, Oil Clean can save tarmacked surfaces from being broken down by spilt kerosene.  I have also spoken to motor event organisers who have told me Oil Clean has saved race sessions that would otherwise have been abandoned following a track oil spill.

“We believe that everyone in the oil industry from OFTEC engineers to tanker delivery drivers could benefit from adding Oil Clean to their spill kit.  It is designed to remove staining and smell after a spill has been absorbed and all neat oil has been removed using the absorbents in the spill kit.”

Soil Clean – in addition to the main Oil Clean formulation which is chiefly used for dealing with hard surface oil staining the company produces Soil Clean; a lighter formulation used in some spill remediation cases for soil flushing.  This is a specialist operation best left to the professionals, but if you believe you have an application suited to a lighter oil degrading blend, David and his IandR colleagues are happy to advise you on what formulation might suit your application.

Bioactive – both formulations can in certain circumstances be enhanced by the addition of IandR’s carefully selected Oil Degrading Bacteria Culture, this is available in sachets or tubs supplied with the Oil Clean and Soil Clean.  For best results it is blended with the Oil Clean / Soil Clean and tepid water about an hour before application.  IandR’s David Cather explains, “Bacteria are not a magic solution, so it’s important to understand how they work; their growth and effectiveness will be influenced by temperature, pH and the presence of other chemicals, they also need time in contact with the oil in order to work.  However, when these factors are understood and conditions are suitable the bacteria will enhance the performance of the Oil Clean and will contribute to breaking oils and hydrocarbons down into harmless compounds.”
